Common questions
What time do activities start? +

Activities usually run from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. If it's your first time, we recommend arriving on time: you'll have a chance to receive a brief introduction to the space and its rules, sign up as a member if you haven't yet, and start at your own pace. You don't have to stay until the end.

Can I come alone without a partner? +

Of course. Many people come alone. The roles of rigger (who ties) and model (who receives the ropes) are completely interchangeable, and in the space you'll find people willing to practise with you. If you have any doubts, let us know beforehand and we'll guide you.

What clothes and equipment do I need? +

Comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement. Nothing special needed. As for equipment:

  • Loan ropes are available in the space.
  • There are suspension points and bamboo poles for those who want to work vertically.
  • If you already have your own ropes, bring them along.
How do I sign up for an activity? +

You can sign up through any of these channels:

  • WhatsApp: the association group or direct message.
  • Instagram: @kinkoishibari
  • FetLife: Kinkoi group
  • Email: kinkoishibari@gmail.com

We'll confirm your spot and give you the access details for the space.

Do I need to be a member to participate? +

Yes. The membership fee (€2/year) is required to participate in the vast majority of our activities. As an association, we are legally required to ensure that participants are up to date with their membership for most of what we organise. It is a legal requirement, not just a formality.

What level of experience do I need? +

It depends on the activity. If it's your first contact with ropes and you're interested in learning to tie, we recommend starting with Peer to Peer sessions or beginner workshops: they are the most suitable environment for taking the first steps.

You can also attend other events, as long as you are aware of what each space is for. In the Sensory Rope Labs, for example, no prior shibari experience is needed. In JAMs, you can model for basic structures or enjoy watching others practise, but they are not teaching spaces: if you go expecting to learn to tie, you may end up frustrated.

If you're unsure which activity best suits where you're at, write to us beforehand and we'll guide you.

What's the difference between a JAM and a Peer to Peer? +

In a Peer to Peer the focus is on learning, sharing technique and growing together. It's an open space to practise, ask questions and experiment regardless of level.

A JAM is designed for those who already have some experience and want to tie for the joy of tying, without a technical goal. The atmosphere is more intimate: each couple's space is deeply respected and sessions in progress are not interrupted. It is a more collected and contemplative space.

Both have their own community guidelines which are shared on arrival.
